DBasia.news – Liverpool defeated Flamengo in the 2019 Club World Cup final which took place in Saudi Arabia, Sunday (12/22).
It took an extra round for Liverpool to secure victory against the Copa Libertadores champions. A goal from Roberto Firmino in the 99th minute locked the match with a score of 1-0 to Liverpool. The Reds won the Club World Cup title for the first time.
“We are all exhausted because of an intense match. It was an extraordinary performance, a difficult match against a good team. We did so many things well, it was hard to believe, so many good football moments,” explained Jurgen Klopp on the official Liverpool page.
“A late goal, we don’t want to need it, but it is important. The players have improved a lot in the past few months and when you start to believe, you believe for 90 minutes, and in this case 120 minutes.”
It’s not easy to fight with Jorge Jesus’ Flamengo. Gabriel Barbosa, Bruno Henrique, troubled the Liverpool defense, while Rafinha, Diego, Everton Ribeiro and Filipe Luiz gave their playing experience in the match.
Naturally, Klopp salutes the struggle of his players. Klopp also praised Flamengo’s game and the great support of their fans at the stadium. However, Klopp believes Liverpool are indeed worthy of winning the match.
“At times like this, I really have a hard time expressing the right words to describe my respect for the players. This is an extraordinary thing. They performed well against a strong team. In this match I can see a sensational performance from several players, “explained Klopp.
“The atmosphere in the stadium was fantastic. The Flamengo fans have partied here and unfortunately, maybe they are unable to celebrate much, but they should be proud of what they have done and also their team.”
“However, I think we deserve to win tonight, we are a better team. In some moments we had a great goalkeeper and in other moments, we were a dominant team. I am thrilled,” he explained.
The Club World Cup title was the third trophy for Klopp with Liverpool in four years of him coaching the club. Previously, the German manager has presented the Champions League and European Super Cup titles.
