DBasia.news – Eintracht Frankfurt revived from being left behind with two goals to foil coach Juergen Klinsmann’s chance to win the inaugural victory with Hertha Berlin. The match ended with 2-2.
One additional point to bring Frankfurt up to ninth with 20 points, while Hertha has not been able to leave the red zone and still must be ranked 16th with 12 points, as reported by the German League’s official website. The draw also ended the three-game losing streak for both teams.
David Selke had a golden opportunity to bring Hertha into the lead when he received Ondrej Duda’s pass in the penalty box, but his shot went wide.
Frankfurt right-back, Almamy Toure, then tested Hertha goalkeeper, Thomas Kraft, on the other side of the field. Hertha scored the first goal in the 30th minute when Marko Grujic sent a pass into Dodi Lukebakio’s path, and was able to be struck into the host’s goal.
Frankfurt scored a goal back before halftime. Goncalo Pacienca passed a horizontal cross from Filip Kostic to be struck by Daichi Kamada, but the goal was unvalidated because from the VAR review there were violations committed by the Serbian player when building the attack.
Hertha doubled their lead in the 63rd minute. Marvin Plattenhardt’s free kick was headed by Dedryck Boyata to Grujic for the visitors’ goal.
Two minutes later Frankfurt was able to reduce the gap when Martin Hinteregger continued Toure’s header to break down Hertha’s goal guarded by Kraft.
The former Bayern Munich goalkeeper continued to be conceded moments later, when he dismissed the ball into his own net, but Andre Silva was said to have commited a foul and the goal was unvalidated.
Frankfurt was able to pack an equalizing goal after Hinteregger steered a corner kick at Sebastian Rode at the far post to be passed into Hertha’s goal.
