DBasia.news – Liverpool’s victory did not have any significant difficulties when hosting Manchester United in the postponed Premier League 2021-2022 match. This took Jurgen Klopp by surprise.
In the match which took place at Anfield, Wednesday (20/4), Liverpool closed the match with a landslide victory 4-0. Mohamed Salah (2 goals), Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane scored the winning goals for the hosts.
This result was actually not too surprising. Liverpool even won by a more decisive score at the first meeting at Old Trafford.
But Klopp has high expectations of Manchester United. It could not be separated from the presence of Ralf Rangnick in the position of the opposing manager.
Many parties predict Rangnick will have a solution to reduce Liverpool’s Gegenpressing. Klopp also seems to be worried about this.
However, what happened on the field was quite the opposite. Manchester United seem to have no energy to match Liverpool’s aggressiveness.
“I didn’t think we would dominate the whole game even though they caused us some problems in the second half. But in the first half, we really controlled the game,” Klopp told Sky Sports.
Rangnick has actually tried to dampen Liverpool. He changed the formation and fielded three central defenders.
But that strategy didn’t seem to be going according to plan. Liverpool’s front line still has plenty of room to bombard David De Gea’s goal.
“We were quite flexible in attack and our counter-pressing today was second to none. How we won the ball back was incredible tonight,” he added.
“It was a grea game. We scored beautiful goals and everyone is happy.”
Even so, Klopp still has respect for Manchester United. He believes the Red Devils are able to rise and return to compete next season.
“United will be back. But for our fans, tonight is a big moment and they deserve the little joy they can have.”
