DBasia.news – Barcelona must beat Bayern Munich to qualify for the 2021-2022 Champions League group stage. Blaugrana president, Joan Laporta believes it is not impossible.
Barcelona is still in second place in Group E after a 0-0 draw against Benfica on the fifth matchday, Wednesday (24/11). But the position of El Barca is still very vulnerable to being evicted.
Barcelona are only two points ahead of Benfica ahead of their final group stage match. That means the Portuguese representative can still overtake them at the last corner.
The last match schedule also benefits Benfica who will only host caretaker Dynamo Kiev. While Barcelona must travel to the headquarters of Munich which is very superior this season.
Munich swept five group E matches with a win. One of them is beating Barcelona with a score of 3-0 at Camp Nou.
That makes Barcelona’s attempt to beat Munich at home to a mission impossible. But Laporta hung hope on the figure of Xavi Hernandez.
“Beating Bayern is something that can be achieved. There will be a miracle, I am sure we will win,” Laporta told AS.
“Xavi is very motivated and very strong, so I hope everything goes well for us. I think Xavi’s arrival has earned a bit of respect from our opponents.”
After being appointed as the new coach of Barcelona, Xavi did bring fresh air. Ronald Koeman’s replacement is unbeaten in his first two matches.
The match against Munich could be a real test for Xavi. If you are able to bring Barcelona to win then there is no doubt about its quality.
Barcelona actually still has a chance to qualify for the knockout phase if they fail to beat Munich. But they must ask Dynamo Kiev for help to at least hold Benfica to a draw.
