DBasia.news – Bayern Munich legend, Lothar Matthaus also commented on David Alaba’s contract situation with Die Bavarian. He considered that Bayern’s gesture of not offering him a contract extension was quite right.

Previously, Bayern had continued to try to renew David Alaba’s contract which will expire in the summer of next year.

However, their efforts never showed results, until finally the Allianz Arena resident team decided not to offer him a contract extension anymore, after their third offer was rejected by the player’s representative. Thus, the defender from Austria will be on a free transfer at the end of the upcoming 2020/21 season.

Matthaus considered that the decision made by his former team was right, as the 28-year-old player would not be able to receive a higher salary than Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski, and Manuel Neuer, who are considered the most important players of Bayern Munich.

“David is an important player and the face of Bayern. That’s why they offered him a wonderful contract extension. However, Muller, Neuer and Lewandowski are a little more important than him, and because of that they are above him in the pay structure. David is hard to replace. However, Muller, Lewy and Neuer will never be replaced, “said Matthaus to Sky Deutschland.

“I still hope and believe that David will continue to play in Munich next season. However, now the contract extension negotiations have not become easier for him, “he continued.
