DBasia.news – Chelsea’s match against Chesterfield in the third round of the 2021-2022 FA Cup was a special moment for Lewis Hall. The 17-year-old player made his dream debut with the Blues.
In the match that took place at Stamford Bridge, Sunday (9/1) morning WIB, Hall appeared from the first minute until the game was over. Chelsea won a convincing victory with a score of 5-1.
The appearance of Hall as a starter was a surprise. Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel bravely sidelined a row of main defenders such as Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, to Marcos Alonso.
This rare opportunity was utilized by Hall to perfection. Appearing on the left side in the three central defenders scheme, he appeared straightforward and was able to record 1 assist.
The moment was even more perfect as Hall officially broke the record as the youngest starter Chelsea has ever played in FA Cup history. He is only 17 years and 122 days old.
“The quality he (Hall) has shown was calm and great in our possession play and the little games he is working on. It was his performance in general and his attitude in training,” Tuchel said after the game.
“It’s a supportive changing room and there is a supportive attitude from all the more experienced players, so it’s really good for the young players.”
Hall’s Response
Hall himself never thought he would make his dream debut with the Chelsea first team. He couldn’t even believe he was playing as a starter.
“We had a meeting at noon, when he (Thomas Tuchel) announced the team and I immediately felt nervous. I saw my name on the starting line-up and I was shaking so hard it took me a few hours to digest it,” Hall stated.
“Since I was a kid at Chelsea, this is something I’ve been working on. To finally get the chance (to play) in front of my family and amazing fans is an unforgettable feeling.”
