DBasia.news – Stephan Lichtsteiner won’t surrender to get the starter position in Arsenal FC. The 34-year-old defender also denies the issue of his retirement.
As we know, Lichtsteiner left Juventus FC and moved to Emirates for a one-year contract. However, his expectation to get a place in the main squad was hindered by Hector Bellerin.
So far, he just performed one time in four Arsenal matches in 2018/2019 Premier League. Despite his lack of playing time from the coach, Lichtsteiner believed he made the right choice to join Arsenal.
Consequently, he never regrets. Lichtsteiner feels like even though he almost reaches the end of his career, he still has the body of a 28.
“I could have changed to five other clubs in the summer, knowing that I would certainly play 47 out of 50 serious matches,” Lichtsteiner said. “I wanted to join a big club. I was looking for a demanding challenge in a new league. That’s why I knew from the very beginning at Arsenal that I had to fight for the regular spot .”
Moreover, the player added, “If I have to admit that I cannot keep the level of the last few years, then it is time. But then I will not only retire from the Swiss national team but finish my career.”
Lichtsteiner was the first recruit or Emery after becoming the coach of The Gunners replacing the legendary Arsene Wenger. But so far, he just performed in one match as the substitute player.
