Lionel Messi Cried After the Failure in 2016 Copa America

DBasia.news – Despite the successes he achieved in the club level with Barcelona and five Ballon d’Or titles, Lionel Messi is still waiting for the first title for Argentina national team.

He almost got it many times, but always ended up with disappointment. One of the examples was in the 2014 World Cup when Argentina got defeated by Germany by the 0-1 score from Mario Gotze’s goal.

However, the former physical coach of Argentina and Barcelona, Elvio Paolorosso, told the failure moment in the 2014 World Cup wasn’t the one that hurt the most for Messi.

Paolorosso revealed Messi was very dropped when Argentina failed in the final round of 2016 Copa America.

At that time, Messi and friends defeated by Chile in a penalty shootout. Ironically, Messi and Luca Biglia were two players who failed to execute the penalty kick.

Paolorosso described the dressing room situation after the defeat was really devastating. But, there was one touching moment when he saw Messi cried alone.

“Around two in the morning, more or less, I found Leo in front of his locker alone, completely alone, crying like a baby who had lost his mother,” Paolorosso explained.

“He was hunched over there, and no one could console him. So I just put my arm around him and the two of us cried together,” Paolorosso added.

In this opportunity, Paolorosso also thanked Messi who believed in him to work together both in Barcelona and Argentina.

“He always worked really well with us, he would even notice whether the pitch was wet or dry,” Paolorosso revealed.
