Liverpool in Jurgen Klopp’s Era Is Recorded Weak on Penalties

DBasia.news – Liverpool lost on penalties to Arsenal in the fourth round of the Premier League Cup. It was noted that the Reds were indeed bad at the white point kick in the Jurgen Klopp era.

In the match that was held at Anfield on Friday (2/10/2020) in the morning WIB, Liverpool appeared dominant even though they fielded several coating players. Controlling 54 percent of ball possession, Liverpool made 16 attempts, with seven on goal.

However, the chances that Liverpool got failed to produce a goal because of Bernd Leno’s brilliant performance between the sticks. Leno made a total of seven saves over 90 minutes.

Leno then became even more fragrant when on penalties, he brushed off two Liverpool executors, Divock Origi and Harry Wiilson. Arsenal, who only failed once in this round, advanced to the quarter-finals after winning 5-4.

For Arsenal this is the fourth time they have advanced to the quarter-finals in the last five seasons. Meanwhile, Liverpool actually extended the negative record when acting on penalties, especially during Klopp’s management.

Of the last six penalties, Liverpool have won only twice! Namely over Chelsea in the 2019 European Super Cup and Arsenal with a score of 5-4 in the fourth round of the Premier League Cup last season.

Klopp’s four Liverpool defeats on penalties started in the 2016 Premier League Cup final when they lost to Manchester City. Then twice in a row in the Community Shield event, namely City in 2019 and Arsenal this year.

If you have this, is it really the way to beat Liverpool in a domestic or European tournament, through penalties?

“I am happy to see the whole match, we mixed up a lot here and I saw the performance of the boys is good. There are many extraordinary things when you are on the pitch at this time,” said Juergen Klopp.

“Penalties are always tricky, everyone knows that. Yes, that’s all,” continued the German manager.
