DBasia.news – The news of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Manchester United is still the talk of the transfer market and this rumor has received special attention from Robbie Fowler, the Liverpool legend.
Ronaldo has reportedly submitted a transfer request to Manchester United’s top officials. Wanting to continue playing in the Champions League is the main reason.
Manchester United is confirmed to be absent from the 2022-2023 Champions League. That’s after the Red Devils were only ranked sixth in the Premier League final standings last season.
Many consider Ronaldo’s request to leave Manchester United shows the high ego of the megastar. But as a feared former striker, Fowler can understand the decision.
Sometimes when you’re nearing the end of your career, you want your cake and eat it too. Ronaldo has an ego and only the Champions League he knows, so you can’t blame him for not being happy in the Europa League,” Fowler wrote in his column for the Mirror.
“He was not brought in for that (to play in the Europa League).”
Even so, Fowler also realizes that not many clubs can accommodate Ronaldo. Bayern Munich even openly rejected his presence even though Robert Lewandowski had just left.
Fowler believes Ronaldo is still every club’s dream striker. However, his high salary made him less attractive.
“Not many can afford him, so he has to take a big pay cut. If he can get a Champions League team, he has to be realistic about his salary.”
