DBasia.news – The fifth week of the continued Premier League in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday, October 17, 2020, turned out to be a loss for Liverpool.
Van Dijk only appeared for six minutes in the match titled the Merseyside Derby. He had to receive treatment after being struck by Everton goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford.
Replay showed that his knees seemed to have locked onto Pickford’s two feet with a tackle. It made him unable to continue the match.
Liverpool have confirmed the knee of its flagship defender has suffered ligament damage. Van Dijk had no choice but to go under surgery.
“I am now completely focused on recovering and will do all I can to return as soon as possible. Despite the obvious disappointments, I firmly believe that in adversity there are opportunities and with God’s help I will make sure to come back better, fitter and stronger than ever, “said Van Dijk through his personal Twitter account.
“In football, as in life, I believe everything happens for a reason and it is important to try and stay calm whether it goes up or down. With the support of my wife, kids, family and everyone at Liverpool, I am ready for the challenges ahead. “
The knee injury has made Van Dijk almost certain to be sidelined until the 2020-2021 season ends. His performance has necessarily not been back to the level as it is today.
This is bad news for Liverpool in the midst of their ambition to defend the Premier League title. Jurgen Klopp as manager must bring in a new defender in January to replace Van Dijk.
