Lopetegui Explained About Courtois Benching

DBasia.news – Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui spoke up about the benching of Thibaut Courtois in the two initial matches of LaLiga. Lopetegui felt the positive impact of goalkeeper competition.

Julen Lopetegui chose to send Keylor Navas in the two initial matches of LaLiga. The Costa Rica national team goalkeeper performed well when El Real defeated Girona 4-1 on the second match of 2018-2019 LaLiga at Municipal de Montilivi Stadium, Girona, Sunday (26/8).

Navas’ improving performance was a bad news for Courtois. With ‎£31,5M in the 2018-2019 summer transfer market, the former Atletico Madrid player hasn’t performed yet.

“It’s not a situation that’s easy to understand but it’s simple enough to explain. I’ve got some really good options in goal and there are no problems in that area. We’ll decide what’s best for each game,” Lopetegui said reported by FourFourTwo.

“Keylor got the nod today and did very well. There’s great competition and that makes us stronger in the goalkeeping department. I’ve got some thoughts in my mind, but I’m not going to share them,” the coach added.

“Over the course of the season, I’ll look for solutions to solve the next immediate challenge,” Lopetegui continued.

Besides Courtois, Luka Modric also started the match from the bench on two initial matches of LaLiga.
