DBasia.news – Louis van Gaal has advised Dutch defender Jurien Timber not to leave Ajax this summer. Because joining MU is not a wise choice for him.
Timber has been rumored to be a target for the Red Devils, with Erik ten Hag looking to reunite with the promising 20-year-old defender at Old Trafford.
But the former Man United manager who is now in charge of the Dutch national team, Van Gaal, feels that changing clubs with the World Cup in sight is quite risky.
“I think a player with his quality [Timber] can play in the English Premier League,” said Van Gaal at a press conference ahead of the UEFA Nations League match between De Oranje and Wales, Thursday (9/6) early morning WIB tomorrow.
“That’s not a problem. But if he has to go there now . . . that’s another matter.”
“I don’t think it’s wise [to move to Manchester United]. He has to play.”
Although guaranteed to start at Ajax, it is not clear whether Timber will get many minutes playing for United. Despite his talent, Ten Hag may prefer experienced players like Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire in the early days of his tenure next season.
Meanwhile, Timber’s spot in the Dutch national team is also not guaranteed, considering that De Oranje has first-class defenders such as Virgil van Dijk, Matthijs de Ligt, Nathan Ake, to Stefan de Vrij.
Van Gaal also commented on Ten Hag’s appointment as manager of the Red Devils and seems to have changed his mind, having previously warned his compatriot to stay away from Old Trafford.
Van Gaal previously labeled Man United a “commercial club”
“I’ve had a chat with him [Ten Hag], but now there’s a new leadership,” he added.
“[Earlier] there was [Ed] Woodward, now Richard Arnold. That could be the difference. Erik is very confident. Who am I to doubt him?”
