DBasia.news – Luciano Spalletti will continue his work as Inter Milan coach next season. Giuseppe Marotta, CEO of Inter, has confirmed it.
Marotta, representing Inter’s board of directors, said he was satisfied with the performance of Spalletti who was able to bring the club to play in the Champions League this season and have great potential to continue it next season.
“Have I chosen a coach for next season? Coach Spalletti, he has a contract, (and) we are happy,” said Marotta, as reported by the Goal.
The statement from Marotta also ended the speculation of the arrival of Antonio Conte or Jose Mourinho to Inter. The rumor arose as Spalletti, despite consistently bringing Inter to play in the Champions League, had difficulty presenting the trophy.
On several occasions, Samir Handanovic and others played inconsistently and were eventually eliminated from the Coppa Italia, the Champions League and (again) fighting for the Champions League zone this season. Inter are ranked third in the standings.
Towards the remaining four matches against Udinese (5/5), Chievo Verona (14/5), Napoli (20/5), and Empoli (26/5), Inter are in third place with 62 points and eight points adrift of second place, Napoli.
Despite being given the confidence to keep on beating Inter, Spalletti cannot continue to bring the treble-winning club in 2010 to compete for the Champions League zone. The trophy remains the target of La Beneamata.
Throughout his coaching career, Spalletti, who once coached AS Roma and Zenit St Petersburg, won only a few trophies: two Coppa Italia, one Italian Super Cup, two Russian Premier Leagues, one Russian Cup and the Russian Super Cup.
