DBasia.news – Luka Modric has reached an agreement to extend his contract at Real Madrid until June 2022. Previously, the Croatian midfielder’s contract will expire at the end of this season.
This means that Modric will complete a decade as a Real Madrid player after joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012. During his eight and a half years in the Spanish capital, Modric has won four Champions League titles and two LaLiga titles, as well as the Ballon d’Or.
Modric’s performances in recent months, plus the leadership and experience he has brought to the squad, have convinced the club to keep him for longer.
In recent weeks, the 35 year old player has put in an impressive and consistent form for Los Blancos, reaffirming the importance of his role to Zinedine Zidane.
According to the MARCA report, Modric is willing to accept a pay cut to stay at Real Madrid. In recent months, the Croatian has received a number of offers from other clubs.
However, Modric always intended to stay at Real Madrid. Modric, who is currently the oldest player in the first team, will serve as a mentor for Madrid’s young midfielder Martin Odegaard.
Madrid hopes that many of the young Norwegian midfielders will continue the role that has been held by Modric.
