Lukaku froze, Tuchel remains calm

DBasia.news – Chelsea’s failure to score in the last two matches cannot be separated from the opponent’s tactics that was able to kill Romelu Lukaku. This fact in fact did not worry the Blues manager, Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea lost 0-1 at home to Manchester City in the 2021-2022 Premier League, last weekend. Similar results were achieved again when they traveled to the headquarters of Juventus in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Lukaku has not scored or assisted in four consecutive games in all competitions. These two trends seem to be related.

Chelsea’s goal productivity seems to be highly dependent on Lukaku’s performance. When the Belgian striker was able to be defeated, the London team will also have difficulty breaking into the opponent’s goal.

The phenomenon was not denied by Tuchel. But he didn’t feel the need to worry yet.

“We had games where he (Lukaku) was fully involved but now we have games like Manchester City where of course he is isolated. There will always be games like that,” Tuchel told a news conference ahead of the Southampton game.

“That’s true but theres nothing to worry about. We are aware of it.”

The quality of the opponent is indeed one of the reasons Lukaku can be defeated. But not all teams have a defense as strong as Manchester City and Juventus.

Tuchel believes the problem can be resolved over time. He feels Lukaku has not fully integrated with Chelsea’s pattern of play.

I think football today is all about connection. Romelu I think has a strong connection with Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic because they seek each other out and have an understanding.”

“Other players may be lacking so they need to learn to understand and adapt and create better.”
