DBasia.news – Gary Gillespie, a former Liverpool player, advises his former club to successfully win the 2018-19 Premier League title. The Reds must imitate Man United who know how to win, despite playing poorly.
Liverpool won a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League 2018-2019 advanced match, at Anfield Stadium on Sunday (31/3). The victory brought Virgil van Dijk and his friends back to the top of the table.
However, Liverpool never complacent. Because Manchester City which occupies the second position still has one fewer match. Moreover, currently, the two teams are only two points away.
To win the Premier League, Liverpool are advised to imitate Manchester United. The Red Devils can still beat Watford 2-1 despite not playing too neatly.
“Winning but playing badly is a sign that you are a championship team. How many times can you see Manchester United doing that? Sometimes, you have to prepare for such a scenario,” Gillespie explained as quoted by Love Sports Radio.
“You might think, ‘yes they don’t play well and in a row’. However, that’s what is needed to become a Premier League champion. Sometimes you play badly, get lucky and get the results.”
In the midst of the pace of Liverpool which raced this season, Gillespie considered the Reds needed additional energy in the midfield sector. Meanwhile, front-line players like Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino are considered to be quite capable.
“I just want to see the Reds have several midfielders with the ability to change the game. I am optimistic Jurgen Klopp can get these players in the transfer market next summer,” said Gillespie.
