Man United Is Considered Stupid to Replace Michael Carrick with Ralf Rangnick

DBasia.news – Manchester United have appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the 2021-2022 season. Rangnick has arrived in England and was recently at Old Trafford watching the game.

Rangnick replaces Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was sacked by United after a 4-1 loss to Watford. Rangnick did not come immediately because he took care of permits and work visas beforehand.

During the absence, Man United’s three matches in all competitions were handled by Michael Carrick, former assistant coach of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The three Man United matches led by Carrick ended well.

United won 2-0 over Villarreal in Spain and progressed to the last 16 of the Champions League. Then United drew 1-1 with Chelsea who currently top the Premier League standings, and won 3-2 over Arsenal at Old Trafford.

After the match against Arsenal, Friday (03/12) early morning WIB, Carrick decided to leave after 15 years at United from being a player to a coach. In his coaching career Carrick has learned a lot from Sir Alex Ferguson, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer.

Now the coaching relay has been handed over to Rangnick. However, not everyone agrees with Rangnick coaching United. One of them came from football pundit, Harry Redknapp.

Redknapp, who coached Carrick when he was at Tottenham Hotspur, said United were stupid not to appoint Carrick as the main manager to replace Solskjaer and instead chose Rangnick. He thinks Carrick is a smart person.

“Michael Carrick is one of the brightest footballers I know, so there’s really no need to be told he won’t be the next Manchester United manager,” Redknapp wrote in a column for The Sun.

“But the fact that United have signed Ralf Rangnick as a temporary replacement, before they get the person they really want, is ridiculous.”

“I’ve never heard of anything so stupid in my life, however you look at it,” he said.

Carrick, in Redknapp’s eyes, was an intelligent footballer when he was still actively playing. With his knowledge of Man United culture, Carrick can be a potential coach to become a good coach in the future.

“They shouldn’t have gotten rid of Michael and put someone over him for a few months. What does that mean? We don’t believe you?” added Redknapp.

“I know Carrick very well. I took him to West Ham when he was 12 and it’s about an hour away to sign him to Portsmouth, too, but I’ll be back there.”

“The problem is, he knows United inside and out. He’s got a great football brain – you don’t play the game the way he does unless you understand it.”

“If they need to sign anyone before a manager is appointed then get a coach beside him, because they came down after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left.”

“They should have picked someone with experience, but let Michael coach until then. He won’t be the first to get the chance and then, who knows, maybe become a great manager himself,” explained Redknapp.
