Man United prepares a new role for Victor Lindelof, if Raphael Varane arrives

DBasia.news – If they manage to bring in Raphael Varane, Manchester United plans to shift Victor Lindelof’s position to be a coating for Varane.

Ten years after Sir Alex Ferguson first tried to sign Raphael Varane to Old Trafford, the Red Devils are now in pole position in the hunt for Varane’s signature.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows United need a new defender if they are to challenge for the title next season. But although United have also been linked with Jules Kunde and Pau Torres, their main target is Varane.

And according to The Athletic, if United later succeeds in signing Varane, then the club is expected to replace Victor Lindelof’s role in the team.

In the last 2,5 years, Lindelof is a regular figure in United’s back line, in fact he has almost always played since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as United manager.

But it is now claimed that United will replace Lindelof, using him as top cover for Varane and Harry Maguire.

The Athletic also stated that the club did not fully trust Eric Bailly, even though the Ivory Coast defender recently signed a new contract with United. There are concerns about Bailly’s fitness, while Axel Tuanzebe has struggled with playing at the highest level due to frequent injuries.

United sees Varane as an upgrade from Lindelof, but signing him is also not an easy matter as there are PSG and Chelsea who also want his signature.
