DBasia.news – Manchester City was named Club of the Year 2022 at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony, beating Liverpool and Real Madrid.
The Citizens were given the title as they are the team with the most total nominations in all categories of men and women in the Ballon d’Or award. The Reds are second in the rankings, while Los Blancos are third.
In the Best Club ranking in the Ballon d’Or, City sent six names, namely Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Joao Cancelo and Ederson Moraes, ahead of Liverpool (6) and Real Madrid (5).
De Bruybe is third in the award, despite losing out to Karim Benzema as the winner and Sadio Mane as the runner-up. Even so, the Belgian star made history as the first City player to be nominated for the top three in the race for the Ballon d’Or.
Meanwhile, City goalkeeper, Ederson is third in the Yashin Trophy award.
“Winning the Premier League title for the eighth time in their history, Manchester City have been voted the best club in the Ballon d’Or award,” France Football stated in a statement.
City also managed to win the English Premier League trophy in the 2021/22 season by collecting 93 points, one point ahead of Liverpool. The Manchester club were also able to score 150 goals in all competitions last season, being listed as the best of any other team in Europe.
