DBasia.news – Manchester City continued to go forward after beating Wolverhampton 4-1. The win brought City level with Arsenal’s record, which was set more than two decades ago.
Playing a Premier League match, City hosted Wolves at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday (3/3/2021). The Citizens took the lead after benefiting from an own goal by defender Leo Dendoncker in the 15th minute, then the visitors leveled the score through Conor Coady.
The balance lasted until the final 11 minutes before Manchester City thrashed Wolves with three goals that clinched the win. Two goals were scored by Gabriel Jesus, and one from Riyad Mahrez.
The result marked the fifteenth straight Premier League win. Even more amazing, Pep Guardiola’s team were not a minute behind their opponents in their last 19 matches in the competition, matching Arsenal’s score from December 1998 to May 1999.
“City have very talented players, who are amazing, with amazing managers,” Wolves manager, Nuno Espirito Santo told BBC Sport after the match. “All the other teams who come here will struggle because they are good opponents.”
The three points earned have made Manchester City even more difficult to catch in the competition for the league title. The Sky Blue has now collected 65 points from 27 matches, 15 points ahead of closest rivals, Manchester United who are below them in the standings. At the end of this week, the two teams will go head to head at the Etihad.
“There are still 33 points to play for. Tomorrow our opponents will play, we have a day or two off and prepare for Manchester United at home,” stated Guardiola.
