Manchester City in the Champions League: Curse of Pep Guardiola

DBasia.news –  Pep Guardiola never won the Champions League title again as a club coach. Last he got in 2011 with Barcelona.

The curse of the Champions League title seemed to continue to haunt him from mid-2013 until now with Man City. Ironic. The reason is, The Citizens under his direction play offensively and entertain the audience. Last season, they wiped out the domestic title.

There are always obstacles for Man City each time going into the knockout phase and through the group phase. Guardiola’s three years of training for Man City and the Champions League title have been a long wait that fans want to achieve. Nevertheless, Guardiola will not regret it if at the end unable to win the Champions League title at City.

“Since my first press conference in Manchester, I have been told that I am here to win the Champions League. I have spoken several times with the club’s owner, Khaldoon (Al Mubarak) and they did not tell me about it,” Guardiola said to Sky Sports.

“They told me that I came here to continue the project, to try to evolve the game, win the game and see how far we can go.”

“That’s the next logical step to becoming a European champion, but sometimes that is impossible. Of course, we want to win it, but whether it happens or not, it won’t change my life or intention.”

“I will not try every day, for the next 10 months, thinking it will be a big disaster in my life if I cannot achieve it,” explained the Spanish coach.

Guardiola exemplifies Barcelona for the first time won the European title in 1992. That was made an example that is not easy to win the Champions League.

“Sometimes it (winning the European title) takes several years, sometimes even longer. Barcelona wait until 1992 to win the first (European) title and they have played this competition for years,” added Guardiola.

“Here, not often, you don’t win the competition in a short time and you can’t win without fans – we have to seduce them,” he concluded.
