By db-admin
DBasia.news – Corona virus has continued to disrupt the schedule of football matches. The latest, the Premier League has decided to postpone the match between Manchester City vs Arsenal, at Etihad Stadium, Wednesday (11/03) local time.
The decision was taken after it was revealed that Arsenal staff made contact with Olympiacos owner, Evangelos Marinakis, who had been declared to be infected by the corona virus. It occurred in the Europa League top 32 second leg match, Friday (28/02).
“Tonight’s Premier League match between Manchester City and Arsenal will be postponed as a precautionary measure following an announcement on Tuesday that Evangelos Marinakis has been exposed to COVID-19,” wrote the official Premier League statement.
“Thirteen days ago, Olympiacos played against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in a Europa League match where the Greek club owner met several Arsenal members and staff.”
Judging by the position of the two teams, the match has significance for Arsenal. Currently, the Gunners are in an effort to penetrate the Champions League zone. Meanwhile, Manchester City has a long distance from the leaders of the standings, Liverpool.
“Following the advice of the medical team, Arsenal and Manchester City consider it necessary to postpone the match tonight, Wednesday (11/3), to give time to fully assess the situation. The Premier League has agreed that the match would be rearranged,” continued the Premier League.
“We understand this will cause inconvenience and spending money for supporters who plan to attend the match. However, Arsenal, Man City and the Premier League agreed after the news regarding Marinakis that there was no alternative but to postpone the match.”
Previously, the corona virus had caused the Serie A to suspend the competition. In addition, several matches in the Champions League and Europa League were held without spectators.
