DBasia.news – David De Gea has again found his best performance in the 2021-2022 season. However, this fact does not stop Manchester United from looking for a successor to the goalkeeper.
De Gea was able to seize the status of Manchester United’s main goalkeeper from the hands of Dean Henderson. He remains a mainstay in goal despite the change of manager from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Ralf Rangnick.
De Gea hasn’t conceded a goal since Rangnick arrived. He was also praised by the manager.
Even so, De Gea’s position does not seem completely secure. This was evident from the maneuvers of Manchester United who observed a number of goalkeepers.
Illan Meslier is the latest name to be linked with Manchester United. The 21-year-old Leeds United goalkeeper is considered to be in the criteria for Rangnick’s ideal goalkeeper.
According to the Daily Mail report, Rangnick sent a special goalkeeper scout, Yony Coton, to watch Manchester City’s match against Leeds, Wednesday (15/12) morning WIB. The goal is clearly to monitor Meslier.
Unfortunately, Meslier failed to perform optimally in the match. He had to accept the fact that his goal was broken into seven times by Manchester City.
With his young age, Meslier is projected to guard Manchester United’s goal in the next few years. Moreover, Dean Henderson reportedly wants to leave in order to obtain playing times.
It is possible that Meslier would be brought in first to replace Henderson. He was given the task of being De Gea’s deputy before finally taking on the responsibility of being the number one goalkeeper.
