Manchester United aren’t advised to sign Frenkie de Jong

DBasia.news – Frenkie de Jong is one of Manchester United’s main targets in the transfer market this summer. But now the Red Devils are advised to stop targeting the Barcelona midfielder.

The arrival of De Jong was eagerly awaited by the new manager of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag. The two does have a good relationship as they have worked together at Ajax Amsterdam.

Ten Hag is believed to want to make De Jong the main axis of Manchester United’s midfield. Large funds have also been prepared by club officials to realize this transfer.

But De Jong’s transfer process is complicated. A number of problems prevented the 25-year-old’s move to Old Trafford from happening.

One of them is De Jong’s reluctance to leave Barcelona. The fact that Manchester United will only appear in the Europa League in the 2022-2023 season also makes it even more challenging for him to move.

This condition received the attention of former Manchester United player, Louis Saha. He advised his former club to cancel the intention to recruit De Jong.

Saha had good reason to think that way. He was worried that De Jong’s arrival would damage the dressing room situation.

“If he doesn’t want to come, don’t take him to the club. He just left Barcelona and went to United because he liked his manager,” Saha said.

“That’s not good enough for me as a player and a team-mate. We want to see players who really want to commit.”

Saha’s concern was well-founded. Moreover, Manchester United’s changing room has often stirred conflicts in the last season.

It is possible that the presence of De Jong could actually add to the chaos of the changing room. Not to mention the emergence of social jealousy due to the closeness of Ten Hag and De Jong.

But Saha was ready to withdraw the suggestion, providing De Jong states his intentions wholeheartedly in moving to Manchester United.
