DBasia.news – Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho commented on the position of the top four of the 2019-20 Premier League standings, aka the Champions League zone. According to him Tottenham Hotspur was just not as lucky as Manchester United.
Different from Man United who are in the order of five standings and can still fight for the big four, Tottenham’s chance is smaller because it is currently in the order of seven standings.
Manchester Red are one point adrift of Chelsea in third and have the same points as Leicester City in fourth, while Tottenham with 55 points seven points adrift of Leicester City.
Man United’s performance is good right now. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team is unbeaten by 19 matches in all competitions until they are worthy of their current position. However, Man United also benefited a lot from the VAR decision (Video Assistant Referee) this season.
Mourinho saw that when United drew 1-1 against Tottenham via the help of VAR and United got a penalty. No doubt Special One considers Man United quite lucky to be in the current position. But he still appreciate the performance of his former club.
“If Man United does it (in the top four) they do it because they played very well in the second half of the season. When you play well you deserve it,” Mourinho said.
“Besides, everyone knows they are a little lucky (because of VAR), more than once. Luck that we don’t have,” the Portuguese manager continued.
The use of VAR which was first used in England this season is also not free from criticism of Jose Mourinho.
“VAR should not be about that. VAR should be a simple, pure, clear decision,” added Mourinho.
“The room for mistakes is that referees on the field make very difficult decisions, 200 meters per hour, different points of view, that is a mistake we learn to try to appreciate in football.”
“Sometimes it’s difficult to accept it, but you understand (the referee’s mistake). Everyone makes mistakes,” concluded the former Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid coach.
