Manchester United Is Now a Public Joke

DBasia.news – For the first time since the Glazer Family bought a large stake in Manchester United in 2005, Glazer representatives and co-Chairman Joel Glazer attended a fan meeting forum earlier this month.

The meeting was held virtual and Joel’s presence could not be separated as a result of the wave of protests by Red Devils fans some time ago. They protested because Man United had followed the European Super League before finally resigning.

In addition, fans also saw the moment to bring down the Glazer regime which was considered no longer committed to building Man United. A Man United fan who has followed the club since 1957, Chas Banks (71 years) was one of the supporters’ representatives who spoke to Joel.

Banks, who is also secretary of the MU Supporters’ Association with Disabilities, expressed his feelings for fans of other clubs. This change can be seen from Man United, who was once respected and is now the subject of public jokes.

“We used to be the club that other teams are benchmarking against – on and off the pitch,” Banks told BBC Sport.

“And the thing is now, people are laughing at us, Joel. We’ve become a laughing stock. There are memes on the internet all the time. And nothing is worse. People say bad things about you, but nothing is worse than laughed at.”

Furthermore, according to Banks, this also happened due to a lack of player investment in the transfer market, causing the lack of quality squad to compete competitively for the league title which was last won in 2013.

Joel Glazer’s Opinion

The Glazers responded with a promise that he would try to revive Man United, but Joel said this did not mean the club would buy players too fast.

“We’re really going to do our best to make things happen as quickly as possible,” Glazer said. “But in modern football, a lot of money is involved; others can try to take advantage of us.”

“We have to try to make sure there is a balance; that we don’t put ourselves in a bad position for the next deal we do.”

“So we are working hard behind the scenes. We are feeling optimistic about this summer and recognize the importance of closing the season.”

Joel’s commitment to resurrecting Man United can be seen in the transfer saga involving Jadon Sancho.
