Marco Materazzi Remembered Headered by Zidane at the 2006 World Cup

DBasia.news –  The 2006 World Cup Final which brought Italy together against France had its own moment for the players.

Took place at the Olympiastadion, Berlin, Germany. France lead 1-0 from Zinedine Zidane’s penalty in the seventh minute which Marco Materazzi scored in the 19th minute. The match went tight until it was continued to the extra round.

Like the fate of the two goalscorers involved in a historic moment at the World Cup. In 109 minutes, four minutes after Gianluigi Buffon saved the Italian goalkeeper from a goal via Zidane’s header, Zidane argued with Materazzi.

The second conversation ended Zidane’s header to Materazzi’s chest until he fell. The match referee, Horacio Elizondo after discussing with the assistant referee gave a red card to Zidane.

It was Zidane’s 14th red card and became the fourth player to receive a red card in the World Cup final. The match continued into the shootout and Italy came out 5-3 after David Trezeguet failed to score for France.

Zidane’s diartumumanya was considered as a turning point in the rise of Italy, because the legend of Juventus and Real Madrid became a scourge for the Italian defense and the most influential player in the squad made by Raymond Domenech.

After that moment, Zidane was defended by France and uniquely Materazzi was opposed by Italy. The former Inter Milan defender was considered to provoke Zidane excessively by bringing Zidane’s mother.

“Zidane was defended by France but I was killed by a fellow countryman (an Italian),” Materazzi said as quoted by Marca.

“For me, they are not real Italians. I always defend the color of Italy. Their criticism is what hurts me the most.”

“They should have kissed the ground that I lived on because I scored the equalizer,” said the man who also played at Everton.

The Inter medio 2001-2011 legend also tells the words he uttered to Zidane. Materazzi insisted he was not talking about Zidane’s mother but his sister. He claimed to say stupid words, but insisted Zidane should not be provoked into gore.

“I said some stupid things that should not have triggered such a reaction (Zidane gore Materazzi),” added Materazzi.

“On any pitch in Rome, Naples, Milan or Paris you hear much worse things.”

“I am talking about her sister, not her mother as reported by some media. My mother died when I was 15 years old, so I would never do such a low thing,” he concluded.
