DBasia.news – Mason Greenwood was not included in the squad in Manchester United’s last two matches. Because of this, it was rumored that there was a problem with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Greenwood started this season less smoothly. The 19-year-old striker had stumbled over an industrial problem in the England national team, which saw him later dropped from the squad.
Now, Greenwood is also having trouble at MU. The player who scored 19 goals last season has only played 4 times in all competitions, with only two starts in the Premier League.
Finally, Greenwood was not included in the MU squad in the last two matches, namely when they beat Newcastle United 2-1 in the English League (17/10) and beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in the Champions League, Wednesday (21/10).
There were reports that Greenwood was dropped from the MU squad because he was late for training twice. Solskjaer, the team manager, then got straight to the point.
“You will (set targets for yourself) when you play well, and I really don’t care what Mason is aiming for,” Solskjaer told a press conference ahead of Chelsea, as reported by the club’s official website.
“He came, he played fantastic, he played his first league game against Tottenham last season. It was brilliant and he’s just started.”
“Yes, he made a mistake this summer with the England national team, and suddenly the whole British press is after him and that’s something we have to take care of. He’s a wonderful kid to work with. I’ve let you down, but he never, not even to just be late for practice. He never had any problems at the practice site. He was always on time,” he said.
Solskjaer admitted that he had heard reports about Greenwood. The Norwegian manager once again defended his players.
“I’ve heard the story. Actually some former United players are talking about it, but they don’t really know what they are talking about. We have photographers outside the training ground every day so they can check,” said Solskjaer.
“I don’t know where this story came from. I just said, he has a good family, he has a good background in the academy. He trains well, and I can’t believe all the stories about him being unprofessional.”
“So it’s something we have to deal with with other players as well. Many other players at United have that,” explained Solskjaer.
