DBasia.news – Matteo Darmian returned to his hometown in Italy. Manchester United has officially sold him to Parma.
“Parma Calcio 1913 is pleased to announce the recruitment of Matteo Darmian from Manchester United on a permanent contract. Players sign a contract with Crociati until June 30, 2023,” said a statement on Parma’s official website.
Manchester United also confirmed it. Darmian was bought from Torino in 2015, when United was still taken care of by Louis van Gaal, with a tag of 12.7 million pounds and a four-year contract. In total, Darmian played 92 times for Man United.
“Manchester United can confirm defender Matteo Darmian has signed a contract with the Italian team, Parma. The full-back joined the Reds from Torino in 2015 and made 92 appearances for the club.”
“Everyone in Manchester United would like to thank Matteo for his service and wish him the best in the future,” added a statement on United’s official website.
Darmian’s departure followed former team-mates such as Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera, Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, and Chris Smalling. Darmian left due to lack of playing time at Manchester United.
Although he can play as a left or right back, Darmian is still allowed to play, either as a left-back lining up Luke Shaw or a right-back left by Valencia. Returning to Italy became a realistic option for him to keep the Italian national team squad ahead of the 2020 European Cup.
