Basia.news – Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs de Ligt confirmed the contents of his conversation with Cristiano Ronaldo, the Juventus megastar, after the UEFA Nations League final match. De Ligt said Ronaldo invited him to join the Bianconeri.
The Portuguese national team came out as champions of the inaugural edition of the UEFA Nations League through a 1-0 win over the Netherlands at the Estadio do Dragao on Monday (10/6) morning Western Indonesian Time, through a single goal created by Goncalo Guedes in the 60th minute.
After winning his second title with Portugal (previously the 2016 European Cup), Ronaldo spoke to De Ligt. It was the second meeting of Ronaldo and De Ligt after meeting in the Champions League quarter-final between Juventus and Ajax.
The camera caught both laughing after the final UEFA Nations League final ended. De Ligt, 19, expressed to the media the conversation with the 34-year-old player.
“Ronaldo asked me to come to Juventus. I was a little surprised by the request, that’s why I laughed. At first, I didn’t understand,” De Ligt told NOS.
De Ligt is indeed a hot commodity in the transfer market this summer. Barcelona, Juventus, PSG (Paris Saint-Germain), Manchester United, attracted to the Ajax Amsterdam captain. Besides being very young, De Ligt had maturity in his game.
The Ajax academy product brought Erik ten Hag’s team to double winners (two titles) in the 2018-19 season at the KNVB and Eredivisie Cup. De Ligt also took Ajax to the Champions League semifinals for the first time since 1995.
De Ligt did not rush to decide his future. He wants to take advantage of the time while on vacation to make a decision. Most important for him, in the new club later, De Ligt can play consistently or regularly.
“Now I will go on vacation, I will think carefully about what is best for me and then I will give a decision,” added De Ligt.
“For young players like me, it’s important to go to a club that can give me a guarantee of consistent play. That’s the main problem.”
