Mauricio Pochettino Has a Chance to Replace Zidane at Real Madrid

DBasia.news –  Reporting from Independent, Spanish LaLiga giant Real Madrid began to be interested in recruiting Mauricio Pochettino as a substitute for Zinedine Zidane as a coach. But apparently Zidane still has a contract with El Real until June 30, 2022.

Zidane could have been dropped by Real Madrid, if he failed to present the Champions League and LaLiga trophies. At LaLiga, Real Madrid is on the top with one point gap with Barcelona. Meanwhile, in the Champions League El Real came second after PSG in group A.

The defeat to City is reported to make Real Madrid’s squad experiencing internal tension. A number of senior players have questioned Zinedine Zidane’s tactics this season, one of which is president Florentino Perez.

Looking at Zidane’s previous achievements, he successfully presented three consecutive Champions League trophies in two and a half years, before finally resigning in the summer of 2018 in his second period of coaching the club.

Nine months later he returned for the second term of his position at the Santiago Bernabeu. But his performance declined, despite being ranked first in LaLiga.

Real Madrid were knocked out of the Copa del Rey at the hands of Real Sociedad last month and defeated to Levante was even held to a draw by Celta Vigo in their home match.

Pochettino is currently not sitting in any club since he was fired by Tottenham Hotspur in November 2019. The Argentine coach is no stranger to LaLiga, because he has handled RCD Espanyol in 2009 until 2012.

The Argentine coach also had entered Barcelona radar as a substitute for Ernesto Valverde some time ago. However, he refused because of his emotional attachment to Espanyol, Barcelona’s city rival.

Previously, Pochettino was approached by Real Madrid directors before Zidane’s return for the second period, but he declined his offer because he was still under contract with Tottenham Hotspur.
