DBasia.news – Gonzalo Higuain is believed by Maurizio Sarri, Chelsea manager, to have improved his performance next season. Sarri saw Luis Suarez’s first season with Liverpool in the Premier League.
Gonzalo Higuain is expected to be the answer to the blunt Chelsea front line. The Argentine striker joined from AC Milan in the middle of this season.
However, after appearing in 12 Premier League matches, Higuain only scored four goals. The amount is considered far from what was expected at the beginning of the player’s arrival.
In fact, some media that reported that Chelsea would not activate Higuain’s buying clause. However, Sarri indicated that Higuain would still survive.
“In theory, yes (Gonzalo Higuain survives). It’s challenging to adapt in the Premier League. I think next season he will score a lot of goals,” Sarri said as reported by Mirror.
“For an attacker, it’s difficult to get used to the Premier League. I remember Luis Suarez at Liverpool in his first season only scoring three goals, then 16, then 24,” said the manager.
Besides restoring Higuain’s sharpness, Sarri also has other heavy duty. The manager wants to cut the distance from the two strongest clubs at the moment, Liverpool and Manchester City.
“I am sure that in two seasons we can approach them. However, I am not sure in two seasons we can be better than them,” Sarri said.
“When I wasn’t in Naples, Napoli had finished 24 points behind Juventus. In the first season we ended nine points behind Juventus. In the second season five points and in the third season four points.”
“For us, it is impossible to cover the gap completely. However, we are very close to doing it,” said Sarri.
Chelsea played 1-1 against Manchester United in the Week 36 match of the Premier League 2018-2019, at Old Trafford Stadium, Sunday (28/4). One additional point makes the Blues penetrate the fourth position in the Premier League standings.
