Memphis Depay Admits to Almost Joining Barcelona

DBasia.news – Lyon striker, Memphis Depay has revealed that he is close to joining Barcelona ahead of the closing of the transfer market this summer. Depay has been the target of Ronald Koeman since managing the Blaugrana. Both of them had a close relationship when working together for the Dutch national team.

The Blaugrana are even reported to have agreed on a personal term with Depay and Lyon. But Depay’s purchase also depends on the income Barcelona achieves from the sales of players.

But Depay didn’t move closer to Camp Nou as Barcelona failed to sell Ousmane Dembele to Manchester United. Man Unied only wanted to recruit Dembele on loan. Meanwhile, Barcelona wanted the Red Devils to purchase him permanently.

This disappointed Koeman. As for Depay, he believes that one day he will wear the Barcelona’s jersey. According to him anything could happen in the future to join the Spanish giants.

“Yes, close enough. We don’t have to go into all the details, but we are almost done. Unfortunately, certain rules have stopped it. I believe that everything in my life happens for a reason. If it has to happen, it will happen, “Depay said as quoted by Metro, Thursday (8/10).

Depay said the failure to move to Barcelona meant he now had to focus on Lyon while waiting for further developments. He did not deny his interest in playing with Lionel Messi and his colleagues would still be there.

Depay played well last season in leading his Lyon team-mates. He led his team to qualify for the semifinals of the Champions League but failed to qualify for the final because they were defeated by Bayern Munich. Unfortunately Lyon had to settle for finishing seventh in the final Ligue 1 standings last season which made them not participate in Europe this season.
