DBasia.news – Even though he is no longer at Manchester United, that doesn’t mean Michael Carrick isn’t observing the journey of his former club. The Red Devils legend strongly supports Erik ten Hag to be successful with Manchester United.
Carrick (41 years old) played for Man United in mid 2006-2018 and then became assistant coach to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, before becoming interim manager for three matches while awaiting the arrival of Ralf Rangnick in the 2021-2022 season.
Man United’s start had faltered with two consecutive defeats against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, but slowly the club rose and won three consecutive wins. Carrick wishes Ten Hag and Man United a good season.
Carrick knows exactly how demanding football is today, when it’s all about instant success without the patience to build anything, just like Sir Alex Ferguson’s 26 years at Man United.
“He (Ten Hag) is a good coach, he did well at Ajax and time will tell if he does well,” Carrick told Eurosport.
“It’s not my opinion anymore but I wish them a good season, I really know. I know a lot of people there. I still go and support them and I wish them a great and successful season.”
“Everyone wants something now, instant. And whether it’s football, whether it’s business, the level of patience is getting low. So, I think it could be too good or too low.”
Carrick also talked about how tight competition is in the Premier League, although in the end he also predicts there will be no significant changes in the top six.
“It’s not often you can get a middle ground where everyone is a little bit more realistic. The Premier League is a challenging league, lots of good teams. But I think at the end of the season you will see the same teams going to the top of the league, just who is in what position, but I think the top six will be the same.”
