Mikel Arteta Hopes Fans are Happy to See Arsenal Beat Chelsea

DBasia.news – Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta hopes a victory over Chelsea on Boxing Day will bring joy to supporters of the club who he says has suffered.

Arsenal entered the pitch without a win in seven Premier League games, they were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Manchester City.

But the Gunner were impressive against the Blues, winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka.

It was Arsenal’s first win since November 1 and the Emirates’ first since a 2-1 win over Sheffield United in October.

Arsenal’s negative record puts Arteta’s position under threat but now he can hope for a win over Chelsea as a huge asset to achieve better results.

“The win is the most important thing today. We really need it. So far we have been unlucky and disappointed with the results, so today is a big day for us,” Arteta said on BBC Sport.

“From the beginning, you can see this team has the energy and passion to win.”

“The team situation before the game was very positive, they really wanted to win. I feel the happiness of the players and the supporters. So far we have disappointed them but today we gave them something to celebrate.”

Arsenal are now in 14th place in the Premier League standings, 10 points behind the top four and Arteta hopes a three-pointer at the Emirates can be a turning point.

“Big win. Previously we were very disappointed with the result but not with the way the team played. The players suffered, as did the fans,” he said on Sky Sports.

“There is nothing better than the London derby win over Chelsea on Boxing Day. Hopefully this will be a turning point. I know this team can play at a high level.”

“We know Chelsea are a good team, but in the big moments our games are better.”

“Injuries, Covid, playing with 10 players, you have to think what to do to win.”

“It feels good to be able to give something to the fans. I can only imagine their disappointment. But earlier we started the match well, we were dominant and that provided confidence.”

“Now is the time to move on. We still have a lot of work to do.”
