“Mikel is currently self-isolating in line with government regulations and we wish him a speedy recovery,” Arsenal said in a statement.

The spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant also has an impact on the Premier League. Last Christmas, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard and Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira were absent from their side’s games after testing positive.
Meanwhile, Arsenal also had a number of players who missed the Boxing Day match, during the 5-0 win over Norwich, namely Calum Chambers, Cedric Soares, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
