DBasia.news – Liverpool had to face a tortuous road at the start of the 2022-2023 Premier League season. The Reds are inconsistent when playing and many of their players are injured.
Liverpool have gone through six matches with a record of two wins, three draws and one defeat. Most recently, Liverpool were held to a goalless draw in the Merseyside Derby against Everton at Goodison Park, Saturday (03/09).
One of the most highlighted appearances was Mohamed Salah. The Liverpool star, who uses the number 11 jersey, has only scored two goals in six games this season, even when Liverpool’s 9-0 win over Bournemouth Mo Salah did not score.
So many questions arise questioning the decline in the performance of the 30-year-old player. Starting from a new contract, losing a tandem after Sadio Mane left, to his disturbed focus.
Liverpool legend and football pundit, Graeme Souness, also has a theory regarding Mo Salah’s dimming performance.
The theory is quite interesting, Souness thinks Mo Salah has decreased after a duel against Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez – Man United won 2-1 at that time. Souness hopes that Mo Salah would soon get back on track.
“I saw Salah play for Liverpool against Man United and in the first five minutes (Lisandro) Martinez got him straight,” Souness told Sky Sports.
“In the rest of the game, Mo Salah looked for Martinez and looked for where he is. I haven’t seen the same Mo Salah since. I just hope he signs the big contract he wants, but at this level if you reduce half a percent or one percent then you are not the same player.”
“I hope it’s not him who appears half-heartedly because he has signed a big contract. I said that as a Liverpool supporter, hopefully it makes him angry and proves me wrong,” added Souness, who defended Liverpool in the mid 1987-1984.
Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, also defend Mo Salah with his declining performance.
“It’s no more than in another season, I’m not sure what you see there. We don’t want to have that. We want to have Mo in that position and we want to have, and have Mo, in the middle position as well,” Klopp added.
“Today mainly we wanted to use Mo a bit more centrally. But we didn’t have much time to train. We are recovering. I talk a lot about that, I’m not sure I was clear enough with what I really wanted in the first half.”
