DBasia.news – Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho for the umpteenth time gave satirized VAR technology. It happened after Tottenham defeated 1-3 from Sheffield United in the 2019-2020 Premier League continued on Friday (3/7).
In the match, Tottenham conceded first in the 31st minute through Sander Berge’s action. But two minutes later, The Lilywhites managed to equalize after Harry Kane striked Sheffield’s goal.
Unfortunately the goal must be annulled via VAR. Lucas Moura was considered to have committed handball offense first.
This is what makes Mourinho furious. He considered the annulment of the goal determined the result of the match.
Sheffield was finally able to score two additional goals through Lys Mousset and Oli McBurnie. Whereas Tottenham was only able to reply once that was again scored by Kane.
“The one here (on the field) is not a referee. The main decision in football is now made by men in the office,” Mourinho said.
“This is the reality. Judges set decisions but technology makes decisions in the office where they are.”
This is not the first time Mourinho has criticized VAR usage. He has done this a lot, including when Tottenham drew 1-1 with Manchester United in a Premier League comeback during the pandemic.
Feeling his criticism was not heard, Mourinho was reluctant to talk further. He was afraid of getting sanctions that could make him unable to accompany Tottenham to compete.
“I cannot say what I think because it will be in trouble and be denied, I want to say but I cannot say it,” he added.
Despite the VAR controversy, this defeat put Mourinho under pressure. Tottenham’s chance to penetrate the European zone is increasingly difficult as they are stuck in ninth place.
