DBasia.news – Manchester United (MU) was fined by the English Football Federation (FA). This is the aftermath of loud protest by Manchester United players against the referee during the game against Liverpool last weekend.
MU had to pay 20 thousand pounds or IDR 355 million to the FA because of the incident in the match that ended with the score of 2-0 for Liverpool’s win. At that time, the MU players swarmed referee, Craig Pawson, after Roberto Firminho scored in the first half at Anfield. However, the goal process was preceded by Virgil van Dijk’s violation of David de Gea while building the attack.
The goal was then disallowed by the referee after seeing the VAR review. “Manchester United FC have been fined 20 thousand pounds after admitting a violation of the FA E20 rules and receiving a standard sentence,” explained the FA.
According to the FA, MU has failed to convince their players to behave properly in the incident on the 26th minute. In fact, De Gea had to receive a yellow card because of loud protests against Pawson. Even though De Gea’s attitude was understandable, as when he was holding the ball, Van Dijk still bothered him. So the ball came loose and was taken by Sadio Mane who then passed it to Firminho.
MU coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, did not want to comment much on the incident. He accepted the decision as in the end Firminho’s goal was annulled. But he stressed that Van Dijk did indeed violate.
