Nacho Monreal Negotiates New Contract with Arsenal

Nacho Monreal

DBasia.news – The competition in the left defense of Arsenal is intense now. At least there are three players competing to get it, they are Sead Kolasinac, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and Nacho Monreal. The latter is the most favorite candidate to fill the position.

Monreal, 32, has been joining Arsenal since 2013 from Malaga. Arsene Wenger took him to North London to be the competitor for Arsenal left defense previously filled by Thomas Vermaelen and Kieran Gibbs at that time.

Five years playing for Arsenal, Monreal is slowly transforming as the number one left defender of the club. He is irreplaceable due to his talent to do overlap. Monreal often appears unexpectedly from behind to score the goal.

In his 32, Monreal is in the intersection to leave or stay, considering the end of his contract. In this situation, Monreal might leave with free agent status at the end of the season. They want to clear the contract problem.

“At the moment we are talking with the club. I’ve always said I am really happy, I feel very happy playing for Arsenal,” Monreal .

“I came six years ago. I have a good relationship with them. We are in contact in any moment so don’t worry about that. I am happy here. That is the most important thing,” the 22 caps and 1 goal achiever for Spain national team continued.

Playing until he reaches 40 is the dream of the alumnus of Pamplona. When there is no injury, it could happen.

“That is my idea, that is what I want. We will see what happens but I feel good. My idea is to play football until my body says ‘Nacho, so sorry but that’s the end’,” Monreal added.

“You never know because your body, sometimes you start with some problems, some injuries and you can’t continue giving 100 percent. But at the moment I feel good so I am not thinking of my retirement,” he concluded.
