DBasia.news – SSC Napoli have successfully revived after the 0-3 defeat against Sampdoria on September 3. Playing against ACF Fiorentina at San Paolo Stadium this weekend, Carlo Ancelotti squad won with a 1-0 score thanks to the only goal from Lorenzo Insigne.
In this match, Ancelotti did some starter transformations compared to the time they played against Sampdoria. He believed Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon, Nikola Maksimovic, and Orestis Karnezis since the very beginning.
After the match, Ancelotti told his formation experiment. The 4-3-3 scheme from the previous coach, Maurizio Sarri, was modified to be 4-4-2. With this new scheme, he wanted to utilize the field width.
“We tried to find width with Mario Rui in the first half, with Jose Callejon a little more open. Insigne was effectively pairing up with Dries Mertens for a 4-4-2,” Ancelotti said.

Insigne’s goal was created by the assist from substitute player Arkadiusz Milik. Ancelotti explained due to the different role with two strikers scheme, Insigne could present his maximum performance.
“Lorenzo did very well, he was coming off a period where he had been unable to fully express his qualities and today played in a slightly different role. I really liked his performance and thought he was Man of the Match,” Ancelotti revealed.
Next, Napoli will play against FK Crvena Zvezda in the first match of Champions League qualification group on Tuesday. For this match, Ancelotti sends the signal to rotate the players. It isn’t sure whether the 4-2-2 formation in the match against Fiorentina will be reapplied.
“It is pleasing, exciting and wonderful to be back in the Champions League. We’ve got a tough group and will try to start strong. I try to rotate all the players, but it’s not easy. The average level of the team is very high, so everyone deserves to play,” he continued.
