DBasia.news – Manchester United officially extended Nemanja Matic’s contract for three years. Matic will continue to strengthen the red devils until 2023.

The 31-year-old player’s career at United almost ended in January when he openly declared he was ready to leave the club in the winter transfer window.

But Matic re-entered the plan of manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a series of slick performances in early 2020 during the absence of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay who were injured.

In March, United activated a one-year extension option in Matic’s contract and began a negotiation for a better deal.

“I am thrilled to continue to be part of this great club,” Matic told the club’s official website.

“As a player, I still have a lot to give and achieve in my career and doing that with Manchester United will be a great honor.”

“This is a very interesting team, we have a good balance between young players and experienced players in the squad and there is a great brotherhood here,” added the former Chelsea player.

Solskjaer welcomed the good news and was glad his squad had players with leadership, experience and high professionalism like Matic.

“I am glad Nemanja has signed a new contract, I know his experience, professionalism and leadership will be valuable for the young players.”

“We have great strength in midfield and Nemanja’s attributes are an important part of that. Nemanja has been here for three seasons now and truly understands the values of playing for Manchester United.”

Matic has been a key in United’s slick performances since the Premier League has resumed. Matic joined United from Chelsea in 2017 after three and a half years at Stamford Bridge.  Matic has appeared 114 times for United, scoring four goals.
