Nostalgia, When Football Was as Pure as Entertainment and Fun for Jorge ‘Magico’ Gonzalez

DBasia.news – Jorge Alberto “Magico” Gonzalez is a different player. He is a professional footballer who really doesn’t care if his team wins or loses.

Gonzalez remains the most beloved player in the history of the Cadiz club for just that reason. For Magico, fun and celebration in playing football is the most important thing.

Gonzalez is a typical player who will go viral on YouTube long before YouTube existed. He once scored from the side of the field for his team with Cadiz against Barcelona at the Camp Nou in 1984. In that match he also beat blaugrana star Diego Maradona.

He also carried the ball past three players which ended with a surprise shot past the goalkeeper against Racing Santander in 1986. Then, he once took a free-kick that was lodged in the top end of the Atletico Madrid goal. These goals have differences in the execution, but all of his goals will rarely be taken by a player, let alone executed that perfectly.

Born in 1958 in the humble neighborhood of San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador, Gonzalez is a natural talent who is loved and most successful in the history of his country. Even before he led his country to the rare chance to appear at the 1982 World Cup.

After the tournament held in Spain, Gonzalez could join Paris Saint Germain or Atletico Madrid. However, Cadiz’s temptation is hard to resist.

During the eight and a half seasons with Cadiz, victory is not a sure thing in every game, but entertainment is sure to come. His best season was in 1983-84, with 14 goals in LaLiga, but unfortunately the club was relegated anyway.

On the Magico pitch, apart from conserving energy by not helping with defense or tactical instructions, he is also ready to pull off special tricks or score magic goals. During his time at the club, Cadiz was relegated twice, but was promoted by a similar number. They also finished topping 12th in 1988 and reached the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey in 1990.

Meanwhile, life off the pitch is also unpredictable. Cadiz is the city where Spain’s first democratic constitution was created, as well as the venue for a grand carnival which is held every year. Cadiz is also a place where the strict rules of Spanish society do not always apply.

In the 1980s, it was a favorite of the legendary flamenco singer Camaron de la Isla and guitarist Paco de Lucia. Mágico is immersed in the city’s nightlife, especially during the “Trofeo Carranza” tournament which takes place in the summer as a place for Mágico to show his skills.

Club directors and coaches have not always seen the entertaining side of Magico’s demeanor on and off the pitch, but he continued to enjoy life in the city until leaving in 1993 at the age of 33.

“I realized that I was not a pious and even my own mother could not resist my desire to party,” González told El Diario de Cadiz.

“I also realized that I was not good at work, but I didn’t think of football as a job. If I thought so, I wouldn’t be myself. I play football just to please myself.”

After leaving LaLiga, Magico returned to his former FAS club in his home country, where he hung up his boots in 2000. Recently, he coached the El Salvador Junior national team, was listed in the FIFA Hall of Fame, and appeared alongside the current Barcelona star. here, Lionel Messi, in an advertisement for a famous soft drink brand.

Meanwhile, Cadiz continued to experience his caste fluctuations, descending to the third caste before rising again over the past decade. The team is not currently as flamboyant as Magico’s squad, but they still entertained supporters with promotion to LaLiga last season for the first time in 14 years.

The past few months have also seen encouragement from supporters to change the name of the Caranza Stadium to “Magico”, a place where his legacy lives on in the club as well as in his city.
