Not Taken to the Spanish Coaching Staff, Enrique says Moreno is Unloyal and Broke Promises

DBasia.news –  The absence of Robert Moreno in the Spanish coaching staff was revealed by the Spanish national team coach, Luis Enrique. He considers Moreno is a figure who is unoyal and does not keep promises.

Moreno began training La Furia Roja – the Spanish nickname – from June 2019 to replace Enrique. At that time, the former Barcelona coach left his post due to personal affairs of his family – his daughter, Xana died of cancer at the age of nine.

Enrique was already ready to train the Spanish national team again, moreover, he left his job for a while. However, Enrique sees Moreno wanting to keep his position until the European Cup 2020 after taking the team to qualify.

“I have an obligation to give you the explanation you want. You know I like to avoid controversy, but I have to give more explanation than I like,” explained Enrique, reported by Sport-English.

“The only reason Robert Moreno is not on the coaching staff is because of my decision, not the President (Luis Rubiales) or the Director of Sports.”

Enrique also explained that there was a direct meeting with Moreno at his home for 20 minutes. He explained to Moreno the reason for not including him in the Spanish coaching staff, even though he had previously been in it.

“He (Moreno) called me and we met for 20 minutes at my house. He wants to be a coach up to the Euro and after that I will return,” Enrique added.

“I understand he is ambitious, that he is passionate about training (Spain) as this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and he has worked a lot, but for me he is unloyal, as I will never do it.”

“For me, uncontrolled ambition is not greatness, but a sign of great weakness. I don’t want someone like that on my staff. I understand the decision, but I don’t want to share it with him.”

“I told Moreno I did not see him as my assistant and I was strong and ready to work, but I did not know when as I had no offer at the time. The meeting ended well and I told my staff what my opinion was,” he explained.

Enrique also denied allegations he offered to RFEF, the Spanish Football Federation, to return to training.

“I never offered myself to RFEF. I never called anyone or ordered anyone to do it on my behalf,” explained Enrique.
