Not Wanting to Retire, Juventus Ready to Extend Gianluigi Buffon’s Contract

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Serie A giants Juventus are reportedly ready to add to the duration of his goalkeeping contract, Gianluigi Buffon.

Buffon returned to Juventus at the start of the season after previously playing for Paris Saint-Germain. Initially many parties predicted the 2019-2020 season as the end of the former Parma player’s career.

Juventus considered the role of Buffon is still very important even though now he’s only as a substitute for wojciech Szczesny. The 42-year-old’s goalkeeper experience is needed to guide young stars in the Bianconeri’s squad.

Interestingly, who wanted Buffon to survive is Juventus President Andrea Agnelli. He immediately expressed it to the goalkeeper.

“We want you (Buffon) to be still part of us,” Agnelli said as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Buffon certainly did not expect to be given a contract extension. But he was ready to answer that trust.

“If you believe this is the right choice, I will be happy to continue,” Buffon answered.

In this new agreement, Buffon will receive a salary of 1.5 million euros. And it doesn’t close the chance of extending the contract again.

Next season, Buffon will be 43 years old. He could become the third oldest player competing in Serie A under Italo Rossi (52 years) and Marco Ballotta (44 years).
