DBasia.news – Darwin Nunez, Liverpool striker, revealed that the advice from Luis Suarez has made him more relaxed after his red card incident against Crystal Palace in the English Premier League in August.
Nunez has had a complicated start to his debut for the Reds since joining from Benfica in the summer and was tempered and sent off earlier this season after headbutting Joachim Andersen in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
This attracted the attention of fellow Uruguay international and former Liverpool player, Suarez, who then advised Nunez not to be provoked by his emotions and must have a strong mentality to play with the Anfield public idol team.
“That’s a good thing because not many people bother picking up the phone and texting you, I think [Suarez’s] action was important to me,” Nunez told ESPN.
“Luis is a reference point, an idol everywhere in the world. When I started, I was young and he knows everything because he has played in the Premier League with Liverpool.”
“Luis told me that these things are going to happen in every game in the Premier League, that they are going to come and provoke me, that they are going to hit me, and that I have to make myself strong and not repeat the same mistakes I mad.”
“He said: ‘Listen to an idiot like me.’ I really appreciate his message and the care he has for me.”
Liverpool signed Nunez for a reported fee of 100 million euros and the 23-year-old forward has scored 6 goals in 13 games in all competitions since then.
Suarez scored 82 goals in 133 games for Liverpool from 2011-14 before moving to Barcelona, winning the League Cup in 2012 and coming close to winning the Premier League in 2013/14.
