DBasia.news – Arsenal officially introduced Nuno Tavares as their new player. The Portuguese player became the Gunners’ first signing for the 2021-22 season.
The 21 year old player joined Arsenal from Benfica. Reportedly the Gunners paid a fairly low price of 8 million pounds to sign Tavares, who is a Benfica academy dropout.
“We welcome Nuno to this club,” Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta said as quoted by Sky Sports.
“The arrival of Nuno will add strength to the team and options at the back. Moreover, he will show his energy on the left side.”
Tavares who plays at left-back will soon join his new team-mates after he completes his isolation period.
Arteta said he was looking forward to working with a footballer who he said had a bright future.
Arsenal’s technical director, Eduardo “Edu” Cesar Daud Gaspar said the same thing.
“We hope he grows and develops with us. Becomes an important member of the main squad,” said Edu.
Tavares has recorded 25 times for Benfica since his debut in the Portugal Super Cup match, August 2019.
“When the season ended, my agent told me that Arsenal were interested. My first reaction was thrilled. This is a big club. I am happy to be here,” he explained.
