DBasia.news – Malang Sarr has officially become Chelsea’s newest player. The London club announced that they officially signed the French player on their official website.
Sarr arrives as a free agent when his contract at Nice expires on June 30th. At Chelsea, Sarr is under a five-year contract. Chelsea also announced that the player will be loaned out to another club in the 2020-2021 season.
“We will not waste the opportunity to sign Malang. He is an extraordinary prospect and we will be closely monitoring him on loan, hopefully he will return to Chelsea soon,” said Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia.
“We are very pleased to welcome him to the club today,” added Granovskaia.
Malang Sarr, 21, is a member of the France U-21 national team and has made 119 appearances for Nice, scoring three goals.
Sarr is considered a versatile center-back and is known to be uncompromising in tackling. He can function well in a back four or a back three formation. Sarr had previously been in demand by Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke 04, Arsenal, Barcelona and several Italian clubs.
Sarr is The Blues’ fourth summer signing and is the second new signing in the space of two days following the arrival of left-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester City.
Chelsea have previously bought Hakim Ziyech from Ajax Amsterdam and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig. It is believed Sarr’s arrival will not be Chelsea’s last signing in the summer transfer market.
The Blues are still trying to get Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen, as well as the arrival of former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) captain Thiago Silva.
