DBasia.news – Paris Saint-Germain finally confirmed the fate of their two veteran players, Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani.
In an interview with Journal Du Dimanche, Leonardo’s sporting director ensured the club would release both of them for free transfers this summer. Thiago, 35, has been defending PSG since 2012 and his contract is coming to an end. The same situation is also experienced by Cavani, 33, who has been part of the Les Parisiens squad since 2013.
“This is a difficult decision. They are players who has made history with the club. Their work is really beautiful. However, it is true, their story is nearing the end,” said Leonardo.
“We have to make logical decisions, both economically and considering the coming generation of young players. Maybe this decision is not right, I don’t know, there will never be a moment that is really right. Now we are still staring at the Champions League and we will continue to maintain them until the end of August. “
“It is unclear how we will legally agree on this [temporary extension].”
PSG have made sure to advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after overcoming challenges from Borussia Dortmund. The continuation of the Champions League is still awaiting UEFA’s decision to plan on organizing tournaments in one city given the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, PSG is reported to have lost the services of a potential young defender, Tanguy Kouassi, who chose not to accept a new contract offer from the club. RB Leipzig and AC Milan are reportedly interested in the 20-year-old player who has scored two goals in Ligue 1 this season. Kouassi’s situation seemed to be repeating the footsteps of another promising young player, Adil Aouchiche, who wanted to find a club outside of PSG.
However, at least PSG had good news after Neymar was already in Paris. According to L’Equipe, the superstar will join the team’s training session at Camp des Loges starting June 22. Actually there is a 14 day quarantine rule for those who enter France, but starting June 15 European countries can review the policy depending on the current situation.
Marquinhos had returned to France first. While other South American PSG players, such as Keylor Navas, Silva, and Cavani will re-join on Tuesday (16/6) the day after tomorrow.
